The APP(CC) programme was launched in 2014 and has recently expanded following the fifth recruitment round. APP(CC)s are generally targeted to the highest acuity patients, with cardiac arrests making up the majority of the workload.

They also attend life-threatening medical problems (e.g. asthma, status epilepticus, ABD, cardiac arrhythmias), major trauma or isolated deformed injuries (requiring relocation and/or early antibiotics), complex maternity calls, or challenging cases where enhanced decision making or crew resource management is required.

Main duties of the job

Recruitment into the specialty is a multi-stage process, designed to be challenging in order to ensure that we recruit the most suitable candidates, and that they are aware of the expectations of the role and scope of practice. The training for newly selected APPs in Critical Care includes an in-house programme taught by internal and external speakers, fully funded Level 7 university modules, and an extended period of mentoring. Training continues thorough weekly case reviews, peer reviews with other APPs or senior clinicians, frequent training days and personal CPD.

An assessment centre will be held over the weekend 17 and 18 June 2023 with interviews being held the week commencing 19th June 2023.

Candidates who are currently enrolled in a programme of study leading to a relevant clinical BSc (Hons) (Paramedic science or similar) and will receive their award by the 1st September 2023 will be considered at shortlisting. Any subsequent offer of employment will be conditional upon achieving the requisite qualification prior to appointment.
