Job summary

  • Reporting to the Director of Clinical Assessment and Pathways, the Deputy Director of Clinical Assessment and Pathways will have full delegated responsibilities of the Director for managing their specialist functional areas to achieve the contractual and/or required targets and will discharge them as appropriate.
  • As a member of the Clinical Directorate senior management team the post holder will be accountable for developing and implementing strategies to support the wider team activities in the Ambulance Services and Clinical directorates.
  • The Deputy Director Clinical Assessment and Pathways will be a role model, demonstrating commitment to support the Trust strategy in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion and will work in partnership with the other Deputy Directors and Consultant Paramedics to deliver the Ambulance Services and Trust strategic objectives.
  • The post holder will deputise for and represent the Director of Clinical Assessment and Pathways when required, with delegated authority making decisions, maintaining and enhancing reputation and profile. They will cohesively work with the Associate Directors of Operations, other senior clinical directorate members and senior quality directorate team to ensure a seamless service is delivered across London

Main duties of the job

  • Working with the Director of 999 Emergency Operations Centres and Director of Ambulance Operations, and their deputies, along with other stakeholders, the post holder will be responsible for working in partnership across all disciplines within the organisation to provide seamless and integrated care to patients; embedding a patient-focused approach and high-quality service that meets the requirement of the Trust and its stakeholders.
  • The post holder will be responsible for providing the optimum level of focus and resource to meet the prevailing demand through increasing access to non-ED pathways, and providing clinical leadership to drive this forward. .
  • The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of any cost improvement plans within the Director's portfolio.
  • They will represent the Trust in public enquires, coroners and crown court when required acting as the subject matter expert in this field. Demonstrating high level of political awareness and can anticipate and judge situations and change management style accordingly, whilst providing a credible and knowledgeable response.

Essential

  • Educated to Masters degree level or equivalent lived experience
  • Senior level experience of Ambulance service/ clinical management/leadership and planning in a similar complex environment
  • Significant experience of working with a wide range of external organisations and stakeholders, delivering strategic objectives to achieve organisational goals
  • Significant experience of leading and delivering major transformational change programmes, through engaging staff, trade union representatives and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrable experience of working at Executive Team level

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • An in-depth understanding gained through highly developed specialist knowledge of current national and local healthcare policy/directives and the implications for London and Ambulance services
  • Ability to influence effectively at all levels and build constructive relationships with others (both internally and externally) that deliver results
  • Demonstrate enhanced communications skills which can be adapted to suit different situations of varying complexity including conveying highly complex information and holding difficult conversations
  • Ability to prepare, produce and present information/documents for dissemination to the Board and a broad range of stakeholders which may contain highly complex, information
  • Excellent project management skills, ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
