Job summary

The London Ambulance Charity has a growing annual income and a short history of pro-actively fundraising and seeking support from patients and supporters. The Trust Board has recently approved an ambitious 5-year strategy for the Charity, which includes creating a dedicated Charity team to oversee the charitable funds.

Main duties of the job

The post of Events & Community Fundraiser is an important link between the NHS charity and the local community. The post holder will be responsible for managing community fundraisers and charity led events, providing support for the Head of Charity and being an active member of the charity team in securing financial support from these areas of fundraising. The post holder will require reasonable knowledge of fundraising and considerable energy and enthusiasm that will inspire the patients, visitors, staff and local community to choose London Ambulance Charity as their preferred charity to support. He/she will also engage and maintain relationships with individual fundraisers, local businesses, staff and volunteer networks.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that fundraising ideas and events are in place that will have high profile and will generate funds to agreed targets. The post holder must be inventive and highly organised in order to initiate and then deliver highly successful events. Working closely with groups and individuals, the ideal candidate will have an outgoing personality, keen for direct contact with people, good at motivating and self-confident.

London Ambulance Service serves one of the world's most dynamic and diverse cities and is the busiest ambulance service in the UK. We handle over 1.9 million emergency calls from across the capital every year as well as delivering a 24 hour NHS 111 Integrated Urgent Care Service in South East and North East London that we estimate will respond to around 1.4million urgent care calls by the end of the year.

We employ over 9,000 people who work or volunteer, across London to respond to the health needs of over 8 million people who live, work and travel in the capital.

We work closely with our NHS partners and are commissioned by 32 clinical commissioning groups spread across 5 STPs and NHS England for our specialist services.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level experience
  • Knowledge of current fundraising legislation, including Data Protection Act and Gift Aid
  • Knowledge of the charity sector

Desirable

  • Evidence of recent continuous professional development
  • Knowledge of fundraising in NHS Charity or emergency service environment

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive & demonstrable experience and understanding of charity & community and events fundraising best practice
  • Excellent track record of setting and meeting fundraising targets, and generating new income
  • Working within constrained budgets
  • Experience of developing new donor and fundraiser relationships
  • Negotiating with suppliers to obtain services or products free of charge or at the best possible rate
  • Proven experience of planning and running events
  • Experience of using a contact management / supporter database

Desirable

  • Charity / fundraising experience in Health Sector/NHS
  • Influencing senior stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Report writing and presentation of financial analysis
  • Experience of working and consulting with patients and/or medical staff
