Job summary

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a Lead Pharmacy Technician to join the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust.The pharmacy team was formed in July 2021 and has been expanding. We are an inclusive and well respected team. We will provide you with personalised support and training. We moved to a newly constructed, bespoke medicines packing unit in Hither Green/Lewisham in November 2021. We are looking for an experienced pharmacy technician who has experience in managing staff, is friendly, dynamic and forward-thinking. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who wish to experience a different sector in the NHS.

Main duties of the job

  • To line manage and supervise the Assistant Technical Officers and pharmacy technicians.
  • To support the production, training and implementation of SOPs.
  • To lead on the day to day management of the Medicines Packing Unit.
  • To maintain a high standard of clinical work and pharmaceutically check and release packed drugs packs.
  • To order, receipt, dispense and check controlled drugs.
  • To undertake and manage the annual Trust-wide CDAO audit
  • To work closely with the Chief Pharmacy Technician, other Lead Pharmacy Technicians and MPU staff.
  • Travel is required to other LAS Trust sites as necessary for meetings.
  • To work a rota which includes early/late and weekend shifts.
  • To train and assess medicines support staff

This vacancy would suit a ACT accredited pharmacy technician with a strong NHS background who is looking for a Team that can provide a high level of mentoring and support on an on-going basis. Limited free parking is available at our current and new medicines packing units as well as good transport links.

  • NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent

  • Qualification in education & training

Experience

  • Significant experience of medicines management with applied practice.
  • Experience developing and writing Standard Operating Procedures
  • Experience of undertaking research activities and dispensing clinical trial medicines
  • Experience of stock management
  • Experience supporting staff with training
  • Experience of report writing

Desirable

  • Previous experience of delivering induction and competency based training
  • Experience in financial management
  • Previous work with or within an NHS Trust

Knowledge and Skills

  • Robust knowledge of the GPhC Standards of conduct, ethics and performance
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of national guidelines and can relate to performance related issues in practice.
