Job summary

Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust seeks to appoint an enthusiastic part-time consultant psychiatrist to the Barnet South Core Community Team, which is one of three adult community core mental health teams serving adult patients residing in Barnet. The post is available since the previous consultant left the Trust.

Main duties of the job

This post offers 6 Programmed Activities per week - 4.5PAs for direct clinical care and up to 1.5PAs for supporting professional activity. The post holder will be required to provide clinical and professional leadership and to take part in related management activities. As a senior clinician, the post holder will have an integral role in the performance of the team, further development of the service, and the development of clinical pathways and priorities.

The team is multi-disciplinary and consists of professionals from a number of backgrounds including nursing, social work, psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, graduate mental health workers and community engagement workers and are supported by a dedicated admin team. The care delivered is recovery-focused which involves a change in focus from managing problems and symptoms to focusing on an individuals strengths and goals for the future. The service aims to assist individuals to be in control of your own life and seek out opportunities beyond their condition.

The service is for adults who are aged 1865 and are experiencing a range of mental health difficulties and who may also have complex needs that would be best met by secondary mental health services. This includes individuals experiencing the following conditions: schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, severe depression, anxiety, personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Services are provided at our base at the Springwell Centre which is sited on the grounds of Barnet General Hospital. Individuals can also be seen at their home address, GP surgery or in the community if necessary or appropriate. The service operates Monday Friday from 9am 5pm. Referral to Older Adult CMHT can occur on a needs led criteria prior to turning 65 when expertise of old age psychiatry services is felt to be in the patients best interest
