Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, committed and passionate Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our community OT pathway. The post is based within the Community Mental Health Teams in Barnet, for working aged adults. The post holder will deliver occupational therapy specific assessment and interventions working alongside a wide range of clinical teams. There is opportunity to work closely with other OTs and other mental health clinicians, learning from them and doing some joint working.

Successful candidates will have strong engagement and motivation skills and be able to work well with service users with complex mental health needs. This role will offer you the chance to develop your skills in an a mental health setting, alongside supportive and creative colleagues.

This post is an occupational therapy specific role, work will involve using specialist OT assessment and intervention. There will be regular opportunities for CPD, protected preceptorship time (if relevant for the successful candidate) and monthly meetings with the community OT team.

This role would be suitable for newly qualified OT's looking to develop their careers in mental health, OT's returning to practice or OT's that are looking to develop their skills in a new area. The trust is committed to developing their Occupational Therapists and has excellent career pathways, including a Band 6 rotational programme.

Main duties of the job

1. To carry a case load for which you have clinical responsibility, supported by band 6 OT and multi-disciplinary teams.

2. Using an evidenced based approach assess client's needs, establish aims and objectives, and plan Occupational Therapy treatment programme in consultation with members of the multi-disciplinary teams, involving the client in decisions regarding appropriate interventions.

3. To carry out a range of standardised/non-standardised assessments, e.g MOHOST and recovery Star, AMPS in accordance with OT Pathway to provide a baseline for OT with clear treatment objectives

4. To provide both specific individual assessment and treatment when indicated, involving motivating and adapting sessions and approach to allow full occupational participation.

5. To adapt activities and assessment to facilitate persons with Cognitive difficulties, Language difficulties, Social skills deficits and Challenging behaviour, to work with interpreters where required .

6. To work with teams to assess suitability of accommodation and housing need to give OT feedback to MDT and other agencies as appropriate.

7. To plan, run and evaluate treatment sessions using graded activities to achieve treatment aims.

8. To plan, run and evaluate OT group program.

9. To maintain a flexible approach to treatment sessions, modifying activities, according to the fluctuating clinical presentation of the service user.
