Job summary
The post offered is that of Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry (10PA), to join the excellent MDT on Thames Ward. This is one of three mixed gender adult psychiatric wards located within the Dennis Scott Unit, Edgware Community Hospital. Thames ward is embedded within the Hospital Services division. The ward is a 20-bed mixed gender acute adult psychiatric ward at the Dennis Scott Unit, Edgware Community Hospital. The ward has 20 beds, however there are internal arrangements to cover the two outstanding beds thus the post holder will be responsible for 18 beds.
Main duties of the job
o To lead the morning ward meeting (Flow meeting) with the ward manager.o To ensure the timely assessment and treatment of patients admitted to the ward.o To hold responsible clinician responsibilities with attendance at and report writing for Mental Health Tribunals and Manager Hearings.o To facilitate access to a range of community orientated services through liaison with community consultants and teams.o To liaise closely with the relevant Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams and crisis houses to facilitate early discharge of patients back into the community.o To liaise effectively with other Trust services and external partner agencies in the best interests of patients.o To promote mental health and independence for all.o To provide clinical and professional leadership in the service.o To support Quality Improvement Projects/Audits on annual basiso To provide a service of the highest quality, within the limits of our resources.o To provide clinical supervision of core psychiatric and higher psychiatric trainees once appropriate training is completed i.e. approved as a clinical supervisor.o To promote high quality management of psychiatric patients by non-medical staff.o To support non-medical colleagues in working independently.o To take part in management activities related to the post, or the wider service within which it is embedded.o To provide annual and study leave cover for colleagues.
