Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity within the North London Mental Health Partnership (NLMHP) for a doctor working at Specialty Doctor level to join the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Service based at Chase Farm Hospital on a substantive basis.

The role is based in the ECT Clinic at Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield. The service provides care and treatment for patients in the boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey as well as some private patients.

Main duties of the job

The doctor's duties will include attending each ECT clinic session, liaising with referring teams, ensuring that referred patients have been appropriately prepared for ECT, interviewing patients to ensure that informed consent is obtained and ensuring that safe and effective ECT is administered in the most patient focussed way. The doctor will work closely with the other members of the ECT team, in order to ensure that patients are provided with the highest standard of care. Documentation of consent and treatment in ECT records and on the electronic patient record will be done in a standardised way. The supervising Consultants will be Dr. Robert Tobiansky, Trust wide lead Consultant for ECT and Dr Doukova/ Greensides.

The Specialty Doctor will attend each ECT session (on Monday and Thursday mornings). The doctor will undertake exceptionally, to be available to attend emergency ECT sessions at other times and in discussion with the Consultants, may be required to attend additional ECT sessions to cover leave arrangements and bank holiday cover (usually with additional clinics). The doctor will participate fully in multi-disciplinary team working and service development

  • o Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise from the GMC by the intended start date
  • o A minimum of 3 years postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a speciality training programme in psychiatry or as a fixed term speciality trainee in psychiatry; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • o Risk assessment and risk management
  • o Good and up to date understanding of principles and practice of psychopharmacology and psychological treatments in psychiatry
  • o Excellent communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written

  • o Section 12 approval
  • Full MRCPsych
  • o More than two years of experience working at ST4 level or above
  • o Further training in any psychiatric speciality
  • o Some experience of clinical audit
