Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Mental Health Practitioner at Older People Community Mental Health Services in Barnet. We are currently seeking a dedicated mental health practitioner (Registered Nurse, Social Worker, or Occupational Therapist) to join our team at the Springwell Centre in Barnet, Hertfordshire as a duty worker.The usual hours of work are Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.

This full-time position involves triaging referrals, having oversight of the duty inbox and providing assessments and treatment plans for older individuals with mental health and frailty concerns. Our collaborative approach ensures seamless transitions between primary and secondary care services for those with functional mental illness and dementia.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic mental health practitioner with a deep commitment to the well-being of our elderly population. Our service area covers the London Borough of Barnet, and we are located at the Springwell Centre within Barnet General Hospital.

Joining our team means gaining access to a wealth of multidisciplinary support, including Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, and Mental Health Nurses. Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to take responsibility for the triaging of referrals into the team. Identifying the care needs of older people referred into the services who are experiencing mental health challenges such as dementia and other mental health illness. The post holder will have a keen interest in working in a supportive multi-disciplinary setting with patients experiencing mental health difficulties to work as the first point of contact for the team. Historically the role of the duty worker was shared between care-coordinators on a rota basis but after a successful trial we are establishing this new role within the team as a sole, full-time, duty worker.

The role of Duty Worker in the CMHT is to support senior practitioners in the delivery of a safe and efficient diagnostic and treatment service. They will demonstrate an understanding of the holistic needs of people referred to the CMHT and their carers, families and also partner agencies. The post holder will always work to promote the safety and well-being of service users and their families/carers.

The post holder will offer pre-diagnostic screening as appropriate and support effective planning and coordination of specialist assessment, respond to incoming and identified risks and statutory duties that fall within the remit of a diagnostic and treatment service. The post holder will be expected to work from base at the Springwell Centre, Level1..

  • 1st Level Registration (RMN, OT or Social Worker)
  • Evidence of further post-registration education and training

  • Minimum of 2 years post registration experience, one of which will be as a practitioner at band 5, working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems.
  • Ability to demonstrate transferable skills if currently working in another setting.
