Job summary
The North London Forensic Service has an exciting position available for an enthusiastic and motivated consultant forensic psychiatrist to jointly provide Consultant leadership to Derwent Ward, a low secure admissions ward on the Chase Farm Hospital site, and the well-established and dedicated Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT).
The successful applicant will join a wider group of consultant forensic psychiatrists within the North London Forensic Service, a large and successful forensic psychiatric service in North London. Its secure care services have been rated as outstanding by the CQC. Derwent Ward is a 12-bedded male low secure admissions ward. The Specialist Community Forensic Team covers the five London boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey, and aims to provide both assertive pre-discharge (transition management) and high levels of multi-disciplinary community forensic after-care for unrestricted patients discharged from secure care. The successful applicant will have responsibility for providing consultant leadership (with the other consultants on each team) to the two teams, and in delivering high-quality inpatient care and community care.
The post holder will find themselves well supported, with opportunities for ongoing professional development and collaborative working within the North London Forensic Service and The North London Mental Health Partnership.

As a senior clinician, to have an integral role in the performance of the ward team, further development of the service, and the development of the clinical pathways and priorities of the service line.
To teach and supervise medical staff and other professionals in all aspects of psychiatric care.

- CCT in Forensic Psychiatry
- Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrist or equivalent qualifications/ certification
- To be "approved" under Section 12 (2) of the 1983 Mental Health Act, the 2007 amendments and any successor legislation
- Experience of assessing and treating patients in acute and community psychiatric settings.
- Approved Clinician status in terms of the same legislation
- Experience in multi-disciplinary teaching
- Ability to take a leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high quality care and staff morale
- Capacity to respond positively to the changing nature of an acute inpatient setting
- Excellent communication skills in verbal and written media
