The post offered is that of Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry (10PA), working in the Haringey East Locality Team. The team is aligned to the Primary Care GP Locality in the East of the Borough. This is a substantive position and is becoming available due to the current postholder moving to our Trust's Adult ADHD Service. The post is subject to the annual job planning process agreed under the New ConsultantContract.

At Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) we provide integrated mental health and community health services to the people of North London, as well as some services regionally and nationally.

BEH manages the renowned North London Forensic Services (NLFS), which was rated as 'Outstanding' by the CQC. This service treats and cares for people within the criminal justice system who have mental health conditions. We also provide one of the largest eating disorder services in England, as well as drug and alcohol services and mental health liaison services in NMUHT.

This post attracts a recruitment and retention premium of £5000 in addition to the standard pay and a relocation expenses of £8,000 (Based on Trust's policy)

Main duties of the job

You will be a full-time consultant within the team, working alongside another 2 full-time Consultants, one of whom is a substantive senior consultant psychiatrist in the trust.

The East team members collectively have years of experience and local knowledge of working structure in Haringey. Each consultant working in the team works with specific GP practices, enabling them to develop close working relationships with their primary care networks.

Consultants working in the East Team will hold a caseload of not care-coordinated clients (who are stable and non-complex) who will be linked with key workers over time. The current caseload of care coordinated clients (under CPA) for the East Core is currently 757, divided into North East PCN (286), N15 PCN (255) and Welbourne PCN (287).

The current caseload includes about 5 on CTOs, 3 MOJ patients. There are appropriately 12-15 new referrals per week.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to provide clinical leadership for the Haringey East Locality Team. The post-holder will be expected:

  • To manage an established caseload of patients on CPA, many of whom use medication
  • To contribute to the management of non-CPA clients in collaboration with colleagues from psychological therapies service streams and other staff groups working in the team
  • To act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for the clients of the East Locality Team treated on a Community Treatment Order (CTO, S17A MHA) under your PCN.
  • To contribute to the assessment of newly referred cases per month and formulate appropriate treatment plans in collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines
  • To comply with all legal obligations covering clinical practice e.g. Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, safeguarding procedures
  • To complete relevant paperwork, including maintaining the electronic record and participating in routine outcome monitoring of clinical work
  • To supervise and facilitate learning to medical staff and other professionals in all aspects of psychiatric care
  • To participate in the trust-wide day-time consultant psychiatrist second on-call rota for Section 136 suite (1:32) and the Haringey consultant psychiatrist on-call rota (1:32).
  • To participate in the weekly team meeting and undertake other duties, as negotiated, that contribute to the good functioning of the clinical team.
  • To provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and take part in management activities and governance processes related to the post or the wider service within which it is embedded.
