Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic band 7 clinical/forensic or counselling psychologist to a permanent full-time post within our psychological therapies and neurodiversity service in HMP Brixton. This role includes working across Early Days in Custody, Planned Care, Unscheduled (Crisis Care) and Release and Transfer. We are closely integrated within the wider multidisciplinary mental health hub, which includes psychiatry, nursing, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy. The post-holder will provide assessment and therapeutic interventions (individual and group), applying a range of psychological models flexibly, working directly with prisoners and staff, and also indirectly through liaison and consultation with the multidisciplinary team and other professionals (i.e. prison officers, safer custody, probation etc.).

We are keen to recruit a clinical psychologist with a broad base of clinical skills, who has an interest in working with this client group. Some previous experience of working in restrictive settings would be an advantage but we would also welcome applications from enthusiastic newly qualified psychologists. We have recently been awarded funding for additional CPD and training for the team and will be offering EMDR training to the successful candidate to further enhance our provision of Trauma Informed Care.

The successful candidate will start following successful employment/security vetting. Part-time or job sharing will be considered.
