- The Trust works to the productive ward model of acute in-patient care that involves regular senior review of patients through regular ward meetings using the whiteboard approach, and the management of patients to minimise delays to discharge and limit the time people spend as in-patients. Close liaison with borough CMHTs is essential in ensuring the active management of the in-patient experience for older people.
- The Oaks also receives input from physical health services in the community to support the management to physical health problems.
- The Oaks ward provides in-patient psychiatric care to patients living in the boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey (please see section 2 About BEHMHT for more information about the trust). Patients admitted to the ward may already be under the care of local Community Mental Health Teams for Older People in each of the 3 boroughs or may present via acute care settings with individual Mental Health Liaison Teams (i.e. Barnet General Hospital and North Middlesex University Hospital; as well as hospitals outside the BEH catchment area in the wider area of London). Alternatively, patients can be referred by local Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams (each of the BEH boroughs has its own team).
- As the trust is now working in collaboration with a view to merge with Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, patients from Camden and Islington may also be admitted to the Oaks and vice versa.
