Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated person to lead and shape the implementation of an innovative new team of older people with complex mental health needs in Haringey. This is an exciting opportunity to develop the Intensive Support Team (IST), which will enhance the offer of the Older Person's Community Mental Health Team for Older People (OPCMHT), by providing rapid and intensive support for service users experiencing a significant deterioration in their mental health or a period of crisis.

What is the Intensive Support Team?

The IST is a small, but dynamic team, which operates within working hours. The team consists of this post holder (Team Leader), full time Band 6, 2 full time band 4s (an assistant psychologist and an associate mental health worker) and half a day of consultant psychiatrist input. It sits within with OPCMHT as a small "sub-team" and will work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team as well as in parallel with other mental health services, including the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team.

The IST will work collaboratively with service users and their networks including family and formal carers to co-produce psychologically informed and comprehensive care plans, identifying any unmet needs as well as utilising the service-user's own resources. The aim is to work towards stabilisation and recovery within the home environment, where possible.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake yearly staff appraisals and develop Individual Development Plans for IST members.
  • To monitor and nurture links between Primary Care and other agencies with the IST and OPCMHT.
  • To participate in the formulation and implementation of protocols and procedures for the delivery of Best Practice within the IST.
  • To lead on matters of clinical audit and reporting of performance indicators.
  • To facilitate service user and carer involvement in development and evaluation of the work of the IST.
  • To lead and coordinate arrangements for specialist education and development opportunities for each profession within the IST.
  • To lead and coordinate arrangements for student learning and placement opportunities within IST.
  • To lead and coordinate the team to achieve the CMHT Accreditation.
