Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an Art Therapist who is looking for a varied role that allows for developing a new service and being an integral part of MH services in Barnet. This new permanent role was created to help us deliver our plans to transform our community mental health services, as part of the NHS Long Term Plan. The transformation of our community mental health services will lead to truly integrated health and social care for adults in Barnet, Enfield and Haringey who have serious mental illness. In addition it will be part of improving the psychosocial offer for patients on our inpatient wards, building on work that has already been successful.
The Art Therapy role will be integral to the transformation of services and offering our service users recovery focused intervention offers. The Art Therapist will be working alongside Multidisciplinary teams and will be collaborating with Art Therapists, Psychologists and Occupational Therapists to ensure that there are clear pathways for providing psychosocial treatment offers. The successful candidate will have access to CPD opportunities, Arts Therapies Forums and AHP forums within Barnet and across the North London Mental Health Partnership (NLMHP).
Main duties of the job
- To develop and provide short term Art Therapy for people within the community wellbeing pathway including assessment, treatment and evaluation of group and individual work.
- To build on the work completed during a pilot programme to provide Art Therapy intervention for patients in the acute wards at the Dennis Scott Unit.
- Undertake the supervision of students and staff.
- Undertake Arts Therapy/psychotherapy research/audit as per the Trust research strategy for the Arts Therapies/psychotherapies
- To undertake delegated management responsibilities when needed
- To assess patients referred to the services in relation to developing an appropriate treatment plan, considering risk factors, complexity of presentation, patient need, and service priorities.
- To deliver Art Therapy for patients using evidence-based approaches
- To develop a high level treatment offer relevant to people with a range of mental health conditions including schizophrenia, mood disorders and personality disorder/complex emotional needs
- To contribute specialist knowledge of Art Therapy to the overall treatment of each patient through contribution to clinical meetings.
- To work in conjunction with the Complex Emotional Needs Arts Therapies services, the Psychology and Occupational Therapy led wellbeing groups and the Wellbeing Pathway.
- To contribute to the development of the arts therapies research by facilitating placements for arts therapy students.
- Clinical supervision of students.
