The Psychology Service for Older People in Haringey has an opportunity for a committed, creative and versatile Clinical Psychologist to join our fantastic team for 4 days a week. This is a preceptorship post, with scope for a new/recently qualified clinical or counselling psychologist to join the service at band 7 and develop the competencies required to progress to band 8a. A preceptorship personal development plan will guide this progression, supporting the post-holder to build the skills and experience to equip them to take on the 8a role within an anticipated time frame of 18 months - 3 years. Staff wellbeing is important to us and we are open to considering flexible working arrangements.
Our team is embedded within Mental Health Services for Older People, where we have strong and rewarding relationships with our colleagues in the Community Mental Health Team for Older People, Specialist Dementia Service and Haringey Memory Service. There is scope to offer a wide range of interventions and we are looking for a team member who is confident to draw on a range of psychological models in their work in order to work with individuals, families and groups. This could include CBT, ACT, MBCT, psychodynamic and systemic approaches.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based in a small team of psychologist's working within Mental Health Services for Older People. The clinical service sees clients with a range of moderate-severe mental health difficulties and/or cognitive impairment and dementia, working with individuals, families and groups to deliver effective psychological interventions. This includes neuropsychological assessment to support differential diagnosis in Haringey Memory Service as well as post-diagnostic support for service users and their families/carers. There are also opportunities to work with teams and care systems providing support for people with dementia and BPSD, offering psychologically informed approaches to managing changes in behaviour.

In line with the transformation agenda we are keen to develop links and co-production opportunities with voluntary and community services to ensure the networks of help available to older people in Haringey are guided by psychological principles and able to reach all those in need of mental health support.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and intervention/treatment of people across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, residential care homes and in patient settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
- Experience of working with people whose behaviour challenges
