Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic qualified Clinical / Counselling Psychologist who is keen to embrace the rewarding opportunity to work with a diverse and complex client group in the Barnet Crisis Resolution Home Treatment team.This role is exceptionally unique as the successful applicant will be working closely with the Barnet Acute Care Psychology lead supporting the implementation of Trauma informed care into MDT treatment planning and team practice. This is an exciting time for Barnet Acute care due to the expansion of psychology provision in Acute care.

The successful applicant will enjoy the rewards of working closely with the Barnet Acute Care Psychology Team with the specific aim of embedding a Trauma informed approach to all facets of Acute care services. We would be particularly interested in hearing from applicants who have experience of working in Acute care settings who have a proven commitment to improving the quality of care provided to our service users. We encourage applicants who may not have direct Acute care experience but express an interest to use their transferrable skills to venture into working within the Acute care pathway.

We also welcome applications from newly qualified band 7 psychologists with a view to achieve career progression to band 8a within 12 months as part of a preceptorship if appointed.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS
  • Registration with HCPC required - UK approved courses only.

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
  • Eligibility for Chartered Psychologist status.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Experience, including in the NHS, of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community/teams, primary care and in patient and day settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

Desirable

  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team setting.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.

Desirable

  • High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.

  • Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
  • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour. IT skills including e-mail, word processing and basic data base.

  • Personal experience of mental health problems and/or personal therapy.
