Job summary
The post holder will be required to assess patients across the urgent care pathway, working autonomously and flexibly to manage the day-to-day assessments and/or advising on management of CYP under the age of 18 years and their families presenting in the A&E liaison/diversion HUB/Paediatric wards at, Barnet Hospital with self-harm and mental health difficulties and all other crisis colleagues across the North Central London (NCL).
The post holder will be required to undertake a range of therapeutic tasks individually and jointly with members of the multi-disciplinary team. To develop & maintain specialist clinical skills and expertise in the assessment of CYP psychiatric emergencies and deliberate self-harm. To receive and assess referrals from A&E, paediatric/general wards, Community Teams, schools and health colleagues across the NCL as well as self-referrals from CYP and their families. To offer advice on management of patients with mental health issues and non-organically based physical symptoms. Identifying regular attendees at Acute Hospitals with mental health problems and in liaison with Community CAMHS teams make available current care plan as and when appropriate.
Main duties of the job
1. To undertake initial mental health and risk assessment of CYP who present with high risk and/or following acts of deliberate self-harm.
2. To independently and/or jointly carry out assessments of the mental health needs of children and young people within a therapeutic framework and to contribute fully to the care planning process.
3. To provide a high standard of care for people in the care group in keeping with the philosophy and operational policies for the Liaison Team and in addition to the Trust's policies, practice and procedures.
