Job summary
The post offered is that of a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry (6PA), to cover 9 beds across two wards at the Dennis Scott Unit. 4 beds on Thames Ward and 5 beds on Trent Ward. Both wards are mixed gender adult psychiatric wards located within the Dennis Scott Unit, Edgware Community Hospital. Thames ward is a 20-bedded. Trent ward is 21-bedded. The remaining 16 patients on each ward are allocated to responsible clinicians on their ward.
Admissions are mainly from the Place of Safety, Accident and Emergency Departments, medical wards within General Hospitals, police custody and the community. Patients admitted to the wards informally are subject to a "gate-keeping" assessment by the Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment Team. In addition, the wards accept stepdown patients from the PICU located at Chase Farm Hospital.
The main purpose of the wards is to ensure the comprehensive, timely and efficient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of all patients with a clear focus on achieving a safe return to treatment in the least-restrictive setting back in the community as quickly as possible. This involves the proactive anticipation, evaluation, and resolution of all potential impediments to early discharge of the patient.
This is an exciting time to join the Trust as there are many opportunities to contribute to the organisations' development and contribute to service redesign.
