Job summary

The Stalking Threat Assessment service is multiagency co-located service. The post holder would work closely with Metropolitan Police, National Probation Service and Third Sector Advocacy colleagues and other agencies, including the CPS to divert and manage individuals engaged in stalking behaviour within the Metropolitan Force Area.

The purpose of the unit is to evaluate and manage the risk posed to others by those who engage in stalking behaviour. The post holder will function within a team of specialist nurses, social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists. The role requires the worker to consult at a high level and to formulate strategies based upon ability to arrive at judgements that demonstrate initiative and professional accountability. The position requires an ability to communicate verbally and in written form to a high standard with partnership agencies, such as the police and the charity organisation. A broad knowledge of systems that that deliver mental health services, is essential. The knowledge base might include an operational understanding of the community mental health services, GP service provision, along with an understanding of the criminal justice pathway.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Forensic or Clinical Psychology to work with a fabulous team to assist in the continuing development of this innovative service as part of a fixed term maternity post.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with the multiagency team to undertake and embed risk assessments, and manage the risk posed to others by those who engage in harassment and stalking behaviour.

The post holder will provide a range of assessments and interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team leading on the delivery of psychology within the team. The role includes direct clinical work (including group work) as well as consultation and training with colleagues and other professionals. The ethos of the service is based on recovery and enablement with focus on individual service user needs.

The post holder will work with the multiagency team setting to undertake and embed risk assessments, and manage the risk posed to others by those who engage in harassment and stalking behaviour. The purpose of the unit is to evaluate and manage the risk posed to others by those who engage in harassment and stalking behaviour in addition to the provision and the ongoing development of direct psychological interventions to address stalking. The post holder will require a good understanding of psychological theory and problem behaviour as well as an operational understanding of mental health services and criminal justice systems.

About us

The North London Forensic Service is based on the Chase Farm Hospital site. It provides inpatient services to North Central London of both medium and low secure forensic care, including a women's service and a service designated for male forensic patients with learning disabilities. Community services include a low secure unit, assertive outreach teams, criminal justice services including working with the Metropolitan and British Transport Police Forces and working in the area of fixated threat and stalking. The ethos of the service is based on recovery and enablement with focus on individual service user needs.

The department is eclectic, and a range of theoretical approaches are welcomed and provided, working individually, in groups and with families. There are also strong established links with the North London clinical psychology training universities, forensic psychology courses and regular teaching opportunities both in-house and at University College London and the University of Royal Holloway.

  • Participate in identifying on-going developments of appropriate statutory and non-statutory services/resources that can be used in onward pathways.
  • Participating in the development of initiatives within the Team and wider service.
  • To participate in team meetings, business meetings, clinical meetings and others as directed by your line manager.
