Job summary
This is an exciting new opportunity for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join the North London Forensic Service to lead the speech and language therapy service within HMP Wormwood Scrubs.
Although previous experience of working within prisons is not essential, a willingness to embrace the unique challenges of working within an environment with a diverse and disadvantaged client group will be required.
Main duties of the job
The main focus of the work will be to lead on the development of the Neurodevelopmental pathway, and to provide assessments & interventions for people with communication needs. The post holder will also be responsible for the production of accessible information and the delivery of communication training for non-speech and language therapy colleagues. The successful applicant will work within a supportive multi-disciplinary team comprising of a range of mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, occupational therapists, psychologists and mental health nurses.
Please note, due to prison security vetting requirements, oversees applicants are not eligible to apply. Band 6/7 preceptorships will also be considered.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Recognised degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Health and Care Professions Council registration.
Desirable
- Post-qualifying education in areas relevant to the post including learning disabilities, autistic spectrum and mental health in forensic settings.
- Trained in the ADOS/ADI-R
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Clear evidence to demonstrate specialist experience and the acquisition of clinical skills for working with people with mental health conditions, learning disability and autism.
- Experience of teaching and training others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within professional settings.
- Experience of providing supervision to students, trainees or more junior SLTs
