Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and well established Therapy Department. St Ann's Hospital has three new acute in-patient wards and it is an innovative and exciting time to be working in Haringey and within the trust, with new developments and initiatives evolving.

The successful applicant will job share with another band 6 and work within the day therapy department in carrying out the valued role of the OT ensuring that in-patients are offered timely assessment and intervention supporting a smooth discharge

The successful candidate would be part of a thriving Therapy Department, alongside AHPs, support staff and psychology. The Occupational Therapists offer individual sessions, ADL assessments and run groups both on the wards and in the Therapy department. The post holder will also be part of the ward Multi-disciplinary Team. The successful applicant will be motivated to make a difference to the patient's recovery with enablement at the heart of the ethos. Experience of working in a mental health setting is crucial.

CPD and professional development is encouraged and supported within the trust.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will work independently and manage a varied and complex caseload on the acute mental health wards in Blossom Court.
  • The post holder will provide a variety of specialised Occupational Therapy Assessments and interventions, promoting a recovery approach and social inclusion on the wards, community settings and home visits as appropriate to support safe discharge of service users.
  • The post holder will work with other OTs, Activities Coordinators, Psychotherapists and Assistant Psychologists to provide a comprehensive therapy programme for service users across the three acute wards.
  • The post holder will provide leadership for junior staff through supervision and appraisal. There is also expectation of acting as placement educator for student practitioners. They will ensure that their practice meets the requirements of this clinical group and will contribute to clinical evaluation and promote the use of evidence-based practice to inform service improvement.
  • The post holder will be managed by the Lead Occupational Therapist. Although staff are allocated initially to work on one specific ward, the post holder is also expected to cover other wards when necessary.
  • Take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, which includes specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, care planning in conjunction with service user and carer, evaluation of individual treatment plans.
