Job summary
Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust seeks to appoint a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist to work on Devon Ward, our male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The vacancy has arisen due to the previous substantive post holder moving to a post elsewhere after working on the ward for a number of years. This is an exciting opportunity to join and established and dynamic team, which forms a key part of our acute care pathway.
The postholder will be based at Devon Ward in the Chase Building, on the Chase Farm Hospital site and will be responsible for the clinical care of patients on the ward.
Devon Ward is a 12-bedded male-only PICU, which predominantly serves the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey as well as patients from our partner trust, Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job
This is a full time in patient Consultant Psychiatrist post on Devon ward based in Chase Farm Hospital Enfield. The vacancy has arisen due to the previous post holder moving to a post elsewhere after working on the ward for a number of years.
Devon Ward is a 12 bedded male PICU which primarily serves the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. There are three inpatient open wards on site, Dorset ward (mixed), Sussex ward (male) and Suffolk ward (female). It has an excellent MDT comprised of medical staff, nurses, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapist and other specialist workers.
The post-holder will provide clinical and professional leadership to the Team and will take part in management activities related to the post and the wider service within which it is embedded.
The Consultant will take the lead on ensuring service users have a comprehensive assessment, risk assessment and management plans and safe prescribing of psychotropic medications.
The post holder will participate and lead daily patient management meetings, providing consultation to the wider MDT on patient management.
The post holder will have a good knowledge and understanding of management of patients detained under the Mental Health Act including management of restricted patients.
