Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an SAS doctor to join a vibrant specialist psychological therapy service as a senior medical member of the team. The post provides much scope for direct clinical contact with patients including not just psychiatric assessment and management but also opportunities to train-in and deliver psychological therapies. Providing psychiatric consultation and liaison support to colleagues both within the team and in other service areas are also important parts of the role.
This post is Full Time (1 WTE) post for a Specialty Doctor working within the Enfield Therapy Service. This post is within the Enfield Mental Health Directorate. The consultant psychiatrist to the service is Dr Matthew Liveras.
The post has arisen due to the current post-holder (0.5WTE) leaving the service. Medical provision to the service is being increased to support forthcoming changes to community services as part of the Community Transformation Project. Currently the team has one 0.5WTE Specialty Doctor, this provision is now being increased to one Full-Time Specialty Doctor post.
The Enfield Therapy Service is a multidisciplinary service (though largely comprised of psychologists) providing a range of specialist psychological therapies. It is made up of 3 'streams' of activity: a PTSD stream, a PD stream and a stand-alone psychological therapies (PTS) stream.
Main duties of the job
Senior psychiatric input into the assessment and management of patients under the care of the service, primarily within the PTSD and PD streams. Overall the post-holder would be expected on average to have 4 - 5 direct patient contacts per day. The vast majority of these will be clinic-based (face to face, less frequently telephone or videolink) but occasionally home-visits may be required (less than once per month on average).
Contribute psychiatric input into periodic team-based reviews of patients participating in the PD treatment programmes (MBT and DBT).
Provide senior psychiatric input into weekly team-based discussions of patients under the care of the service. Such discussions may result in advice being given to team-members working with patients, to liaison with the patient's GP or other involved professionals, or in a decision to meet with the patient for psychiatric review.
Occasionally patients under the care of the service require assessment under provision of the Mental Heath Act 1983 (2007) and the post-holder may be expected to participate in Mental Health Act Assessments. This may happen less than once per year. If the post-holder does wish to have more frequent experience of this work this can be discussed with the consultant psychiatrist.
