An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our innovative and dynamic therapy team at HMP Wormwood Scrubs.
The post is based within the Daycare Service which is an integral part of the overall healthcare provision in the prison. The Daycare service caters for prisoners from across the establishment who are in a mental health crisis and is aligned to the inpatient and in-reach services.
The postholder will work alongside the Lead OT in developing and reviewing the Day Centre programme to ensure that it meets the changing needs of the prison population. You will take a lead on the provision of input into the therapeutic group work programme within the day centre, co-facilitating psycho-ed groups with members of the psychology team, overseeing the work of specialist sessional workers providing creative activities, and the development and running of OT specific groups with support from the Wellbeing Centre manager.
Main duties of the job
You will have a keyworking role to a designated caseload within the day Centre and take on a role as deputy to the team manager with a significant guiding and leading the daily work of the team. You will work closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and relevant outside agencies, as well as with OT colleagues to provide a quality service, which is responsive to clients needs.
Successful candidates will have strong engagement and motivation skills and be able to work well with service users with complex mental health needs and a forensic / offending history. A working knowledge of the occupational therapy process applied to the Model of Human Occupation and Occupational Deprivation research are also essential.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Dip. COT, BSc O.T.
- Current Health Professions Council Occupational Therapy registration.
- Evidence of CPD/Reflectiv e practice in application to clinical setting ? e.g. identification of learning and skills developed from clinical practice and evidence of engaging in training and professional development.
Desirable
- Masters or post graduate papers in relevant area.
- Further relevant courses or areas of study.
- AMPS trained and calibrated.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Either: a minimum of 3 years postgraduate clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist, which includes at least 1 year's experience of working with people with mental health problems or a minimum of 2 years postgraduate clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist in a forensic setting.
- Experience of planning and running a range of therapeutic groups.
Desirable
- Experience working with young people and or in CAMHS.
- Experience in supervising and appraising junior staff and students.
