The Psychology Service for Older People in Haringey has an opportunity for a creative and versatile Clinical Psychologist to join our fantastic team. The team is embedded within Mental Health Services for Older People, enabling us to build strong and rewarding relationships with our colleagues in the Community Mental Health Team for Older People, Specialist Dementia Service and Haringey Memory Service.

We offer an outpatient service for individual services users, their carers and families, providing psychological consultation and interventions for older people with moderate-severe mental health conditions and cognitive impairment. There is scope to offer a wide range of interventions and we are looking for a team member who is confident to draw on a range of psychological models in their work. We also work closely with CMHT and SDS colleagues to bring a formulation-based approach to work in the community including psychosocial approaches to BPSD.

Main duties of the job

1. To provide specialist psychological interventions and general assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.2. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client's mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.3. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjustingand refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.4. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.5. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.

We have strong links with Clinical Psychology Training Courses at UCL, UEL and Royal Holloway and the post holder will be expected to supervise trainee clinical psychologists on placement in the service.

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology and two or more distinct psychological therapies as accredited by the BPS.
  • Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and intervention/treatment of people across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, residential care homes and in patient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.

  • Knowledge and experience of Open Dialogue
