In-Reach Nurse HMP Pentonville

North London Forensic Service (NLFS) has been rated as OUTSTANDING again by the Care Quality Commission, and part of this is our dedicated and skilled staff team who have a number of development opportunities open to them across a varied number of innovative services within the criminal justice pathway.

We are currently looking for Band 6 mental health practitioners for our Inreach team within HMP Pentonville. This is a Category B local remand male prison in North London with an operational capacity of approximately 1300 spaces. Although it would be beneficial, previous prison experience is not a mandatory requirement as we provide a full training and induction package. What is of paramount importance is a genuine desire to work compassionately and creatively with service users who are often in crisis and acutely distressed.

Please note, this position will be subject to prison vetting. You will be required to have a current right to work in the UK and be currently resident in the UK.

Main duties of the job

1.1 Conduct triage and comprehensive assessments that produce informed recommendations about their needs and implements a care pathway.1.2 To undertake a full mental state assessment, risk assessment, and gather a background history for individuals with a variety of needs. These would include those with mental illness or personality disorder and associated learning, social, personal, dependency and substance misuse issues.1.3 To prepare accurate written reports following assessment in line with quality standards.1.4 To make clinical judgments on situations as they arise, or change.1.5 A high standard of interpersonal skills is required to manage the complex and often conflicting needs and wants of those involved in the process.1.6 To facilitate appropriate signposting to/referring on, or interventions in close collaboration and liaison with other relevant agencies. Using a good working knowledge and understanding of local services.1.7 Safely managing a caseload within a recovery focused framework.1.8 To undertake risk assessments and provide risk management strategies.

NLFS delivers mental health care in HMP Brixton, HMP Pentonville and HMP Wormwood Scrubs in London and HMP Grendon and HMP Springhill in Buckinghamshire. NLFS also provides mental health services at HM Young Offenders Institutions at Aylesbury.
