Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 5 or Band 6 Occupational Therapist, to join the Haringey Learning Disabilities Partnership (HLDP), an integrated health and social care team, on a fixed term contract.

You will be part of a small, cohesive therapy team, holding a casehold of service users (adults with learning disabilities), providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions, to enable service users to achieve their maximum level of functional independence and participation in meaningful occupations. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to OT/Learning Disabilities service developments, deputise for the Lead OT when required, supervise junior staff and educate OT students on fieldwork placements.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide Occupational Therapy assessments, formulate and implement treatment plans, for an allocated caseload of service users
  • Apply knowledge and skills gained through post graduate experience and training, for example sensory, autism, mental health and PMLD
  • Carry out Comprehensive Care Act Eligibility Assessments of service users newly referred to the Learning Disabilities Team
  • Attend the multi-disciplinary team meetings, contribute professional knowledge to clinical discussion of complex cases.
  • Provide specialist advice and training to families, staff and services about appropriate treatment approaches, development programmes and adaptive equipment for clients.
  • Initiate, plan and run specialist OT treatment groups/projects for service users when indicated.
  • Maintain clinical records, according to policy and guidelines, and write specific OT reports as necessary.
  • Follow OT local and national guidelines and policies which relate to the profession and field of work, and suggest work changes in response to new legislation and policies.
  • Use goal-setting with service users to ensure effective treatment and as an O.T. outcome measure.
  • Attend regular supervision with the Lead OT and annual achievement review
  • Undertake training required by LD services
  • Educate staff and other agencies about the role of OT with Adults who have a Learning Disabilities.
  • Responsible for the supervision of unqualified OT staff/students.
  • Be involved in audits and service development projects
