Job summary

This is a part time post 0.8 WTE, working for the Grove drug treatment service in Haringey, provided in partnership with Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust and Humankind.

The Grove Drug Treatment Service is free and confidential for people facing a drug problem living in Haringey. It is run by Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust in partnership with Humankind- acharity that provides support to drug users, their family and carers.The Grove drug treatment Service is a multi-disciplinary team comprised of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Doctors, Nurses, Substance misuse practitioners and a Psychology Team.

The psychology service is delivered by a mix of paid and unpaid staff including Doctoral trainees on placement and assistant psychologists, and the post holder will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day service delivery.

The psychology team delivers individual psychological interventions to clients with mild/moderate use as well as those with more severe or chronic use through extended consultations and psychological assessments. The post holder will work in partnership with other local therapy provision, statutory and non-statutory to ensure that suitable pathways of care are utilized that allow service users to step up and down or access other forms of therapeutic intervention. The post holder will be expected to utilize research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide specialist assessments and extended consultations to clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients
  2. To formulate and implement plans for the formal treatment and/or management of clients' mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
  3. To be responsible for implementing a range of therapeutic interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
  4. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
  5. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by therapy based standard care plans.

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS/HCPC including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • Further training in a specialised area of psychological practice through formal post-doctoral training (diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, together with an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice with an experienced clinical supervisor, at an equivalent level to a postgraduate diploma

Skills

Essential

  • Specialised training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of pre-school children with autism spectrum disorder
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies with children, young people and families
  • Ability to undertake clinical risk assessment and to work within safeguarding procedures

Desirable

  • Specialist training and experience in autism assessment measures, e.g. Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2)
