Haringey Learning Disability Partnership

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Band 8b Lead Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to provide leadership and strategic direction for psychology provision within the Haringey Learning Disability Partnership (HLDP). This is a full-time permanent role.

HLDP is a well-established integrated multi-disciplinary health and social care service for people with learning disabilities, their families and carers. The service currently consists of community nurses, community support officers, occupational therapists, a physiotherapist, psychiatrists, psychologists, reviewing officers, social workers, and speech and language therapists. We also have access to external art and music therapy provision where required. The office base is conveniently located opposite Wood Green tube station with excellent transport links across the borough.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to lead the provision and development of the Haringey learning disabilities psychology service. The service currently includes a band 8a, and band 7 psychologist and two band 4 assistant psychologists. The service works with people with learning disabilities who present with a range of psychological difficulties including behaviour that challenges and provides specialist assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation. Psychology also provides support and supervision to staff within our innovative intensive support service for people with behaviour that challenges and mental health difficulties who may be at risk of admission or placement breakdown as well as those who may be being discharged from hospital back to the local community.

Strong leadership and engagement skills alongside the ability to work creatively and therapeutically in relation to the psychological needs of people with learning disabilities is essential to this role.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent as accredited by the BPS including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist.

Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified psychologist for a minimum of four years with two years at a highly specialist level.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

Desirable

  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
