Job summary

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is in the process of strengthening its Digital Operations Team with additional Subject Matter Experts (SME) to enhance and develop its End User Support Function area. This role is to provide second line support for a critical function at a time of growth and change across the ROH Digital Department.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced End User Computing Engineer which will involve all aspects of end user support activities working in a small, flexible & highly motivated team. With a methodical & structured approach to problem solving; attention to detail; the ability to prioritise tasks; operating both individually & as part of a team; communicating effectively with users at all levels within the organisation.

You will have the opportunity to add value on a daily basis, resolving business critical computing issues for end users. You will also be expected to build credibility with stakeholders through a customer-facing presence and tackle a wide variety of tasks such as providing remote desktop support. There are also lots of opportunities for career development, contributing to projects to enhance the users experience through hardware and software upgrades.

Main duties of the job

Primary Tasks

  1. Along with providing 2nd Level support for BAU team the principle activity will be delivering projects and managing base images.
  2. Liaise with IT Service Desk, Infrastructure and 3rd Parties where appropriate for resolution of tasks, requests and incidents.
  3. Respond to support requests logged on the service desk system in an efficient and timely manner.
  4. Utilise the Trust's Remote Management software to assist with remedial work when dealing with complex issues.
  5. Manage & support multiple technologies: (Horizon view, Citrix, AppSense, App-V, Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft AD, SCCM, MDM, VMware Workspace One etc...).
  6. Manage all change/problem/incidents and escalate any issues to EUC Technical Manager.
  7. Provide Cyber Security, vulnerability scanning, application and OS hardening and encryption of desktop devices.

  2. Assist in the receipt, testing and pre-deployment configuration of IT desktop devices (PCs, printers and other equipment), including asset labelling and security marking.
  3. Assist in the periodic audit of IT assets and associated records.
  4. Maintenance of IT desktop devices in order to minimise the disruption caused by deterioration and failure.
  5. Provide technical support and training for customer moves and changes.
  6. Maintain hardware, software inventory, build and deploy software packages.
  7. Provide project support and user training using standard methods/processes completing project tasks.
  8. Utilising network monitoring tools for prevention and troubleshooting incidents.
  9. Mobile Device Management (VMware workspace one, SCCM).
  10. Provide training and coaching opportunities to junior staff as needed in a timely manner
  11. Provide out of hours, oncall support.

  1. Participate in the objective setting process as part of the annual Performance Development Review/appraisal process, to understand how own role and objectives are linked to team, directorate and corporate objectives, to review what aspects of your role are being done well, and to identify any areas for development.
