The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (ROH NHS FT) is the largest provider of elective orthopaedic surgery in the UK and provides routine and specialist orthopaedic services. It is also the leading specialist centre for bone and soft tissue cancers and provides a regional spinal service.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the senior pharmacy team at ROH NHS FT. The post holder will support the Deputy and Chief Pharmacists in providing a high quality and clinically robust service to wards and theatres, with a focus on clinical governance and patient safety. The post holder will have an opportunity to be a part of a dynamic senior Pharmacy Team.
The pharmacy service has undergone a major service transformation with the relocation of the department to a newly refurbished space including a brand new Omnicell robot, Trustwide EPMA and automation across all inpatient wards. This is a great time to join a forward-thinking senior pharmacy management team and make a difference in shaping the service for the future. We are expanding the team and are looking for soemone who wants to drive improvements through robust audits/ service evaluation, representation at various Trust forums to drive the service forward. We also want soemone to offer mentoring and line management to a growing number of Foundation pharmacists and clincial pharmacists.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will help develop the pharmacy service in line with the aspirations of the Pharmacy Department, the Division and the Trust.
As a highly specialist clinical pharmacist the post holder will be responsible for:
- Developing, co-ordinating and participating in (in conjunction with key other staff in the Trust), the annual programme of relevant clinical audits to achieve evidence for, Medicines Management standards for the Care Quality Commission or ensure any ensure quality and safety targets are met and ongoing assurance of safety can be provided.
- To support the Medication Safety Officer and Medication Safety Lead Pharmacist in addressing the safety agenda in relation to the handling of medicines across the Trust and hence minimising risk to patients
- Line management and providing educational support to band 6/7 pharmacists. There may also be scope to becoming a DPP or Designated Supervisor
- Contribution to all aspects of clinical governance within their specialties including: clinical risk, clinical audit, and education and teaching.
- Liaise closely with the Division 1 medicines safety pharmacist, AMS lead pharmacist and Lead pharmacist for Education and Teraching to provide cross cover as needed.
The postholder will be involved in supporting multiple projects/workstreams such as:
- Annual Audit Program including AMS
- Pre-op assessment and day case surgery projects
- Preparing for CQC inspections/ engagement

This will involve reviewing all medicine related incidents in Division 1 and 2 , looking at trends, following up incidents and developing strategies to reduce the incidence in the future. This will also involve reviewing and acting on any National Guidance issued.
