Job summary
To ensure a high standard of care is delivered by the Nursing team within the Urology department through the provision of evidence-based practice.
Support the Unit Manager providing clinical and managerial expertise.
Play a key role in co-ordinating and developing the nursing team.
To provide support to the senior management in ensuring all staff comply with Trust policies and professional and legal standards.
To develop specialist skills that will future support the Specialist Nurse service

Main duties of the job
In collaboration with the Unit Manager, be proactive in supporting the clinical nursing developments
Responsibility for coordinating the nursing team in the absence of the Unit Leader and prioritising the workload in response to the differing demands of the service
Be responsible for the Urology Teams e-roster, annual leave, sickness and PDR
Maintain own standards of patient care and monitor those of junior team members. Highlighting identified training needs to the Unit Leader. Facilitate a learning and development environment for team members and allocate students.
Undertake preceptorship, mentorship and workplace assessor and teaching roles, as required by the service within the nursing team
Participate in formal and informal teaching of staff, demonstrating nursing care procedures when appropriate including the Trust Male Catheterisation training session
Liaise with Unit leader to ensure team members maintain an up-to-date knowledge base and skill development programme.
Undertake a wide range of clinical interventions/ diagnostics e.g., complex catheter changes, bladder treatment , Trans Perineal biopsy and vasectomy
Communicate effectively with patients, to ensure involvement and consent for care planning and subsequent interventions.
