Job summary

Rainbow ward is a busy, fast paced, acute Paediatric ward. We are looking to recruit a full time Health Care Assistant with experience in the hospital setting with the potential possibility of developing to a Band 3 HCA on completion of training.

Main duties of the job

The Healthcare Assistant will work as part of the ward team with supervision of registered practitioners to provide effective, safe patient focused care at all times.

Contribute to the development of the care environment with a positive, professional attitude.

Contribute to the maintenance of daily provision of service and care to meet the individual needs of patients and department.

To support the smooth running of the ward and ensure patients, relatives and carers are dealt with in a friendly and efficient manner.

You will ensure that policies and guidelines are adhered to.

Job responsibilities

As a health care assistant you play a vital role in delivering high standards of care to our patients and families.

Rainbow Ward is a busy paediatric ward, you will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure all patients are cared for and treated with dignity and respect. Your duties will be varied, and include, assisting patient with personal hygiene, assisting patients during meal times, talking and listening to patients and working in partnership with patients, carers and the wider team.

This is a very demanding and challenging role, you will need to be compassionate and caring and have a passion for this type of work. You will need to demonstrate that you are highly motivated, enthusiastic, well organised and are able to work both independently and as part of a team. Effective communication skills are essential.

  • Responsible for providing direct care to the defined group of patients under the direction of the registered nurse.
  • Assists patients to undertake normal activities of daily living
  • Follows care plans developed by the registered nurse
  • Reports any changes in patients condition, untoward incidents or accidents to the senior nurse immediately
  • Assists with the maintenance of ward cleanliness
  • Assists in maintaining stock levels
  • Assists with the transportation of patients, equipment and supplies
