We are offering you the opportunity to become part of our focused and friendly team at the Endoscope Reprocessing Unit at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and Leigh Infirmary as an Endoscope Reprocessing Team Leader, working Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am-6pm, and also participating in an on-call rota.

Main duties of the job

The ERU Team Leader is expected to undergo all aspects of training, which is designed to equip them with the knowledge, skills and understanding to carry out the wide range of tasks within the department, requiring a high degree of numeracy, record keeping and attention to detail.

You will be liaising with customers and staff from all levels across WWL sites.

You will be expected to be pro-active in seeking ways to improve the the processes and procedures within the unit that will sustain the effective and efficient ways of working, thus driving the continuous improvement of service quality and performance.

You will work closely with the ERU Unit Manager and ERU Team Coordinator to ensure that the daily production is planned to meet the clinical need of the user and is produced to the quality standards required.

This is a vital service that is a major link in the health care chain.

Job responsibilities

  • To undertake decontamination science duties and assist the workforce within the unit in providing specialised decontamination for reusable flexible endoscopes contributing to the clinical care of the patients across sites based within Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • The management of decontamination records within the unit.
  • Interpret and review technical data and production reports.
  • Provide a high quality and timely service to all customers.
  • Supervise, organise and allocate work, train both new starters and less experienced staff. To assist with the development of the Departments Standard Operating Procedures in accordance with Quality Management Systems and ensure staff compliance to them.

  • To carry out the receipt, disassembly, manual cleaning and reassembly and reprocessing of reusable flexible endoscopes.
