Job summary
The Clinical Teaching Fellow will participate in the ENT Day time rota. Based at RAEI, Wigan but will undertake duties at other Hospitals in the Trust when required.
Additionally, to cover for the occasional brief absence of colleagues as far as is practicable in cases of occasional emergency or in unforeseen circumstances without additional remuneration. Sick colleagues will normally be covered for short periods of absence and then only during the standard working day.
Responsibility for the administration of the Ear, Nose and Throat Clinical Directorate rests with the Clinical Service Lead (Mr VB Pothula). The Consultants deal with junior medical staff appointments, locums, annual leave, study leave and post-graduate education. The service lead is responsible for duty rotas and must be informed of any absence from duty and must be consulted before changes in the duty roster and requests for annual leave, study leave, or day release are submitted.
The Clinical Fellow will seek guidance as required from the appropriate Consultant.
Main duties of the job
Generally responsible for in-patient treatment under the supervision of the Consultants. The fellow will undertake out-patient clinics and theatre lists as directed and deal with emergencies as required.
To answer without undue delay any request for assistance from the A&E medical officer if he wishes to refer a patient for opinion.
Checking Radiology and Pathology reports and ensuring that appropriate action is taken.
To personally contact laboratory technicians and radiographers on-call when they are required in cases of emergency.
Interviewing relatives of patients as required and when necessary request permission for an autopsy.
Liaison with family practitioners.
Notify General Practitioners, by telephone, of any death.
Notification of deaths to H.M. Coroner as determined by prior discussion with Consultant.
Notification to "Proper Officer" of Notifiable or Infectious Diseases.
5 clinical sessions (0.5WTE) to include Ward, Rapid access & outpatient clinics, theatre work.
5 teaching sessions (0.5 WTE) determined by Edge Hill University - secondment
