Job summary
This successful applicant for this role will be enrolled on to the Junior Energy Manager Level 3 Government Apprenticeship Programme. The applicant will be required to complete & pass the 18-month programme to secure a permanent Band 7 Energy Manager role within the Trust. If there is a failure to pass the course this may lead to termination of employment with the Trust.
The role represents an opportunity to become a qualified Energy Manager. You will get the chance to revamp the Trusts strategy around energy demand in light of our net zero requirements. You will also get the chance to help develop the Trust Heat Decarbonisation Plan, Net Zero Strategy and Estates Strategy in relation to current and future energy provision.
The post holder will be paid under Agenda for Change Annex 21 and salary will be 70% of Band 7 in year 1 and 75% in year 2 (AfC Annex 21 per annum, pro rata).
This vacancy is open to all internal and external candidates. NHS Employees should ideally secure their manager's agreement for a secondment arrangement ideally prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis and will end in 20 months. Whilst this post is advertised on a fixed term/acting / secondment basis there is the potential that this post may become permanent in the future and the candidate will secure a permanent Band 7 Energy Manager role subject to them passing the required apprenticeship course and assessment.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for:
- The management, monitoring and reporting on energy consumption throughout the Trust
- To investigate anomalies in consumption and spend
- To advise staff on good and bad practice in relation to energy use
- Cost savings through improved Energy Procurement and energy efficiencies, considering services that are sourced from renewable companies
- Energy and Environmental Estates returns information
- Raise awareness of new initiatives that will reduce the Trusts environmental impact
- Awareness Campaigns i.e. Energy and Water Reduction Campaign

- Develop the Estates Energy Strategy
- On-going review and implementation of relevant policies and practices related to energy and water

The Sustainability team is relatively new within the Trust. They are responsible for development of sustainability, environmental, travel and climate change adaptation strategy for the Trust. They also manage some of the largest budgets within the Trust, for utilities and oil.
