Job summary

Edge Hill University is looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic clinician at consultant level (or within 6 months of CCT) with experience of undergraduate medical teaching and training to the post of Clinical Academic within the department of undergraduate medicine, Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine. This is a newly created role and will provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to make a major contribution to the development and implementation of the MBChB programme at Edge Hill University at an important time in its development.

This will need to be a joint appointment between Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine at Edge Hill University. You will be appointed jointly under an employment contract with the University and an Honorary contract with the NHS Trust (the Follet principles will apply).

We would welcome applications from individuals who have who have an established track record of research output/scholarly publication, although there will be opportunities to be involved in research and ongoing scholarship and professional practice.

Main duties of the job

About the Clinical Academic Post

You will contribute to teaching and assessment of medical students and Physician Associates across the medical school as appropriate to your expertise. We would welcome clinicians with an interest in assessment of clinical and professional knowledge and skills and/or fitness to practice. We will offer exceptional opportunities for research and advanced scholarship and work with you to develop a progressive career development plan.

About the Consultant Post

This is a new Consultant position within Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a well-established service and join a team of Consultants in the relevant medical specialty, working together to provide a comprehensive clinical service to the population of the Wigan borough.

You will be expected to participate in the training of medical and nursing staff within the service as well as students and those attached for training from other related services. There will be an opportunity to take part in Consultant on-call rota if you wish to do so.

About us

You will perform the duties and responsibilities of a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Edge Hill University. You will contribute to teaching, learning and assessment of undergraduate medical students and support the development of professional skills, values, and behaviours. You will take a lead in a wider area of medical training within undergraduate medical training such as assessment, professionalism, year lead, according to interest and experience, with particular emphasis on the clinical years. It is expected that you will also liaise with local education providers to enhance the quality of the student learning experience. You may also contribute to other programmes within the department such as the physician associate programme.
