We are offering you the opportunity to become part of our team at the Endoscope and Reprocessing Units based at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan (RAEI) and with cover at Leigh Infirmary when required at the Endoscope and Reprocessing Units (ERU) as a Technician and as part of the on-call rota - NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

We have x1 20 hours per week working 5 days (Monday-Friday) post at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan Lane, Wigan. The hours are between 8am- 6pm. There is a shift system in operation which includes participation of the "On Call" rota.

Training will take place at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.

Main duties of the job

To participate in the provision of specialised decontamination of flexible endoscopes contributing to the clinical care of our patients.

To carry out receipt, disassembly, manual cleaning, reassembly and reprocessing of reusable flexible endoscopes.

Work in accordance with the Department's standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems.

Plan your own workload with limited supervision.

The role involves exposure to body fluids.

We are looking for someone who would like to join our skilled and adaptable team, who is dedicated to providing a comprehensive service to Endoscopy Units, Operating Theatres, Wards across both the RAEI & Leigh sites.

This is a vital service that is a major link in the health care chain.

The technician will be expected to undergo all aspects of the training provided, which is geared to equip them with the technical knowledge, skills and understanding to carry out the wide range of tasks within the ERU, which requires a high degree of numeracy, record keeping ability and attention to detail.

  • To work in accordance with ERU Policy, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management System to meet JAG (external) accreditation.
  • To reprocess reusable flexible endoscopes, disassemble, manually wash, disinfect, reprocess, check, despatch to user and track in a controlled environment.
  • Under limited supervision by the Team Leader meet the demands of the Departments workload whilst consistently achieving high quality standards which will be measured by in-process checks.
  • To use manual dexterity and concentration for the disassembly of the reusable flexible endoscopes in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
  • To operate decontamination equipment and carry out routine tests daily/weekly, in accordance with the Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedules, National Quality Standards and Guidance.
  • To undertake duties consistent with the responsibility of the grade and needs of the service.
  • The daily documentation of work production.
  • To maintain the cleanliness of work areas sinks trolleys and other equipment, in line with the units standard operating procedures.
