The Emergency Department Team are seeking to appoint one enthusiastic and quality driven Consultant colleague.
Come and work with us at one of the busiest and best performing Emergency Departments of Greater Manchester. Wigan is the second largest borough in Greater Manchester with a population of approximately 325,000. We are only a couple of hours via train to London and half an hour via car to Manchester.
Wigan Emergency Department has an average of 90,000 patient visits per year.
With delivery of best possible patient care and innovation at heart, our department has come leaps and bounds to achievehigh standards and quality of care. We have also developed our own research team to initiate and facilitate future research projects.
Wigan ED isproud to be a Trauma Receiving Unitand works closely with the Major Trauma Centres in Greater Manchester.
We have recently reconfigured the department and rebranded as Emergency Village. We have developed a co-located UTC, ISAT and upgraded the walk-in centre at Leigh. We have also started the SDEC as per national guidelines.
The team has also beenhighly commended by NHSI and ECISTfor innovative measures utilised in patient flow with streaming to relevant areas, utilising an ambulatory patient pathway and the clinical decisions area for patients.
Main duties of the job
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to enjoy the variety of clinical practice that comes from working in a busy district general hospital whilst developing theirown special interestsboth clinically and non-clinically. Flexible working patterns and special interests in other specialties will be supported.
At WWL, there is asignificant scope for motivated Consultants to take a lead in shaping the future of emergency careon both a local and regional level. The Trust will support Consultants in developing a special interest within Emergency Medicine such as Academic Emergency Medicine, Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Trauma, Education, Guidelines, Governance and Emergency Ultrasound.
You will be responsible, along with the other Consultants for developing and maintaining the high standard of care we provide to our patients.
All consultants are expected to participate in audit and research.
The post-holder will be expected to be committed to the concept of lifelong learning and produce and maintain a Personal Development Plan and Job Plan in agreement with the Clinical Director.

The post holder is expected to participate in the departmental and Trusts governance meetings and answering complaints and coroners reports. Consultants will be expected to maintain and foster improvements in the quality and standards of services. All post holders will be allocated and be in charge of audits through the year.
Communications and Key Working Relationships
