Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed clinical academic (NHS consultant level) with excellent communication, interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing an excellent student experience. With a relevant background in supporting, teaching and assessment of medical students within placement environments. You should be on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from the date of interview) and have Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent qualification).

We would welcome applications from individuals who have an established track record of research output/scholarly publication.

This is a joint appointment between Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine at Edge Hill University. The post holder will be appointed jointly under an employment contract with the University and an Honorary contract with the NHS Trust (the Follet principles will apply).

Main duties of the job

You will contribute to teaching and assessment across the medical school. Working alongside medical school academics, the practice education team and placement providers, the post holder will ensure the development and delivery of the MBChB curriculum and assessments within placements in years 3 to 5. We will offer exceptional opportunities for research and advanced scholarship and work with you to develop a progressive career development plan.

This is a new Consultant position within WWL. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a well-established service and join a team of Consultants in the relevant medical specialty, working together to provide a comprehensive clinical service to the population of the Wigan borough.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the training of medical and nursing staff within the service as well as students and those attached for training. There will be an opportunity to take part in Consultant on-call rota.
