An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Support Worker to join our Special Needs School Nursing Team in Staffordshire.

Our team provides high-quality care for pupils with a diverse range of learning disabilities, physical disabilities and neurological conditions within Special Needs School settings. As part of our friendly and highly skilled team, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people with special educational needs and their families.

You will play a key role in supporting our vision to continuously improve healthcare provision across our special schools. Your contribution will help ensure that children and young people can fully access their education, thrive in their learning environment, and achieve their full potential.

The successful applicant will be primarily based at Saxon Hill Academy, working as part of the on-site nursing team. Travel to other schools and hubs within the service will be required in line with workload and service needs.

It is essential that you have access to reliable transport for this position.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist with routine health monitoring, including accurate measurement and recording of pupils' height, weight and other observations as required and directed by special school nurses.
  • Provide administrative support to the nursing team, such as maintaining health records, updating documentation, managing correspondence.
  • Support the development, implementation and review of care plans, ensuring timely updates and helping to gather relevant information for nursing staff.
  • Undertake delegated clinical tasks in line with training and competency assessments, which may include:

    Gastrostomy and enteral feeding,Medication support (within scope of role)

  • Assist in delivering training and guidance to school staff.

  • Work collaboratively with the wider MDT team.

  • Contribute to maintaining safe and effective care environments, following policies, safeguarding procedures, infection control standards and best practice guidance.

  • Support Continence workload with support and guidance for special school nurses.

  • To work using own initiative within special schools under minimal supervision following a period of supervised practice
