We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the Health and Justice Reconnect team as a Health and Justice Support, Time, Recovery Worker (STR) based in Sussex.

The Sussex Reconnect Team have gained a fantastic opportunity to develop a Reconnect Service within the Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) in Gatwick. Through this you will be supporting people to prepare for their release from the IRC and to reconnect to the necessary health services they need following their release. In addition, the role may include visits to HMP Lewes, HMP Ford as well as supporting Service Users in the community.

The Health and Justice services identify people who have substance misuse, mental health, learning disability or other vulnerabilities when they first come onto contact with the criminal justice system or Immigration Removal Centre. We look to identify unmet need and vulnerabilities that often lead to or exacerbate offending behaviour, offer onward referral and signposting as appropriate. We liaise across agencies to support onward planning and intervention to address identified needs.

This is an 'all age' service, and you will be required to work with people from the age of 10 years plus.

You will also be expected to travel over a large geographical location to support the requirements of the role.

Main duties of the job

As an STR Worker you will provide support to the wider Health and Justice service working in Police Custody Suites, Courts, Prisons, Immigration Removal Centre and Community throughout Sussex and offer assessments to individuals within the Criminal Justice system including Voluntary Attendees.

As part of this role, you may be expected to:

  • Help to inform decision makers with relevant and timely information to support sentencing and disposal outcomes.
  • Work with service users referred to Health & Justice and the individual's carers, helping to promote self-determination, choice and autonomy.
  • Effectively establish a therapeutic relationship with service users and relatives / carers.
  • Be responsible for participating in the setting of quality standards, including the auditing, monitoring and reviewing of practice in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.
  • Assess patient's individual care needs, agree and refer on to appropriate agency. Involve the individual in the planning and prioritisation of their activity where possible.
  • Provide short term intervention to encourage individual to engage with services and attending their initial appointments.
