Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Psychology Graduate to join our Community Perinatal Mental Health Team and Maternity Mental Health Team to support women & families during the perinatal period.

You will be joining a well-established team who strive to deliver an excellent standard of care to expectant / new mothers who are experiencing moderate to severe & complex mental health problems during pregnancy & in the first-year post birth.

The post holder will support & enhance the psychological care of clients within the service, providing psychological assessment & psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with the Clinical Psychologist and within the framework of the service's policies & procedures.

We have a very supportive psychology team within MPFT Perinatal Services. This includes an Assistant Psychologist peer supervision group, the opportunity to shadow psychologists, regular psychology meetings, continued professional development & service development sessions as well as access to excellent training.

If you are pursuing a career in Clinical Psychology, this post will provide you with an opportunity to build on your existing experience and further develop psychological skills & knowledge. We have good links with the local Doctoral Training Courses & offer placements to Trainee Clinical Psychologists.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of service users applying psychological, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the service user's care.
  • To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a service user's difficulties, including offering individual psychological therapies.
  • To assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups.
  • To communicate and liaise with staff from other disciplines.
  • To assist in the delivery of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service.
  • To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • To review case files, depositions etc. where appropriate, analysing that information, providing summaries and reports under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
  • To prepare reports on clinical interventions with individuals and groups, the results of psychometric assessments, case note reviews and research/audit projects. Such reports may be written for, or read by, service users, psychologists, members of the multi-disciplinary team, or staff from external agencies.

Essential

  • A First or Upper Second honours degree in psychology OR a lower class with a post-graduate qualification e.g.: Masters degree.
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Desirable

  • Further training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, autism, personality disorder and/or research design and analysis.

Experience

  • Significant experience of face-to-face work with, mental health and/or offender clients
  • Experience of working in an inpatient or community setting
  • Experience of working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems
  • Experience of assisting in delivery of group-based treatment
  • Has experience of working alongside other staff
  • Experience of working within multi-disciplinary settings and multi-agency settings.
  • Has worked with clinical psychologists and has an awareness of professional standards/issues.
  • Experience of research methods, audit or other service evaluation techniques.
