Job summary

We are looking to recruit a high Speciality Doctor to join our established Childrens Eating Disorders team on a 12 month fixed term maternity cover contract, providing a community based service dedicated to delivering eating disorder services to children and young people aged 8 - 18 years.

We are seeking a motivated and committed doctor who has a passion for working within this specialised area. The post holder will join a multi disciplinary team including nurses, dietitians, art psychotherapists and systemic family therapists providing assessment and treatment to young people and their families across the locality.

You will have the opportunity to help us genuinely shape and develop a service to be proud of that delivers real benefits to children and young people with an eating disorder.

Main duties of the job

  • You will need to be familiar with the provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983 and amendments (2007) and also with The Mental Capacity Act of 2005. Also arrangements for the protection of Vulnerable Adults.
  • You will provide general medical services within their areas of competence. This will include routine physical examination and health monitoring. There will be a need to assess physical health problems as they arise and arrange treatment or where appropriate liaison with or referral to secondary health care.
  • Develop good working relationships with the other psychiatrists and professionals within the Trust.
  • To receive referrals and undertake a full medical assessment of all referred patients.
  • You will will carry out individual psychotherapy under supervision, if appropriate.
  • Training and supervision in psychotherapy treatments for eating disorders is available for interested post-holders.

This role will deliver a service across the South Staffordshire area (Cannock, Stafford, Seisdon, Burton, Lichfield & Tamworth) based in Burton. You will be an integral member of the multi disciplinary team and will be involved in all aspects of assessment and treatment including physical health monitoring and management of medical and psychiatric co- morbidity.

You will provide medical intervention for problems that are directly related to Eating disorder. It is intended that the Specialist will work closely with the area CAMHS consultants, Learning Disability consultant and community paediatricians to establish the medical remit for treatments.

The role will also entail offering advice and consultation to non-psychiatric colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures.
