South Shropshire Community Mental Health Service hasan exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with lived experience of receiving care in mental health services to join our service as a peer support worker.

You will be a valued member of the South Shropshire community mental health service multi-disciplinary team, using lived experience to come alongside people using services on a one-to-one and group basis to explore people's own goals and personalised recovery.

Please note that lived experience roles require applicants to have personal lived experiences of recovery relevant to the setting, e.g. mental health issues and of receiving care in the relevant services such as community teams or specialist services. Applicants who do not hold this lived experience need not apply.

Main duties of the job

  • A key feature of this post is to promote individual person centred recovery by drawing on the peer support workers own personal lived experience of mental health challenges and of accessing mental health services.
  • As a highly valued member of the team, peer support workers will have a case load of identified patients who they will work with on both an individual basis and by delivering group interventions, working in collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary team.
  • You will promote choice, self-determination and opportunities and assist the individual to set and achieve their own unique recovery goals and recognising that each individual's recovery is a distinctive and deeply personal process.
  • Your work may also involve providing practical assistance such as encouraging healthy lifestyles, helping individuals to build confidence, and offering information, advice and support to form connections within their local community resources.
  • Peer support workers will support individual's to co-produce their care plan with members of the wider multi-disciplinary team. You will champion recovery and work closely with all members of the team to add to the quality of recovery orientated care and treatment. Peer support workers will work as an advocate to amplify the voices of those who use services to ensure that their experiences and are understood and reflected in the clinical work and ongoing development of the service.
