Paediatric Audiologist
Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
This job is now closed
Job summary
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Paediatric Community Audiology service. The service provides a comprehensive test battery for hearing assessments, following current national guidelines. This involves the assessment and monitoring of the service caseload within a family/ child friendly community setting and onward referral as required for more complex objective forms of assessments (such as ABR) and for further management.
We are passionate about providing an outstanding joined up care for our service users and their families and are always looking at ways to develop and improve the service.
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual with strong communication, organisational and IT skills who is able to work autonomously and to effectively prioritise their workload in accordance to both local and national guidelines. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative, dynamic and enthusiastic individual who is looking to expand their knowledge and experience working with children and young people in a community setting.
Main duties of the job
To undertake age appropriate hearing assessments and interpret the results of infants and children (and those with special needs) which involves taking of history including developmental stages.
Clinics are structured in a Level 1 and Level 2 format. Level 1 clinics are carried out by a Band 6 Audiologist supported by a specially trained nursery nurse who is encouraged to use their clinical experience of child development to highlight any developmental issues that become apparent.
The audiologist takes a history, completes an age and developmental level appropriate hearing assessment (with assistance from the nursery nurse), examines the child's ears and performs middle ear assessment as felt needed. Children found to have significant permanent hearing losses are referred to local hospital audiology services as we do not provide ABR assessments or work with hearing aids.
The audiologist will also be responsible for feeding back results to parents/carers, discussing actions needed, arranging any referrals or reviews and completing clinic records. In level 2 clinics the Band 6 audiologist will work alongside a senior audiologist to assess more complex or difficult to assess children.
