RMN/RNLD/RGN Social Work - Health and Justice Custody Team (Worthing Custody Suite - Sussex)

You will be working with some of the most marginalised patients in society as they encounter Police Custody as part of their criminal justice journey. Working alongside the service user, Police, Crown Prosecution Services, Probation, Mental Health services and third sector agencies are some of the organisations that work in Police Custody to get the best health outcomes for our service users.

Main duties of the job

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for Band 6 Practitioner with a criminal justice interest. The Sussex Health & Justice Service is based in Police Custody across the locality with this post based in Worthing.

The role includes providing high quality assessments and supporting people coming into contact with the criminal justice service. The unique service is delivered to people of all ages, with any vulnerability including but not limited to; mental health, physical health, learning disability, substance misuse, unemployment, housing, educational needs etc.

The successful applicants must be highly motivated and looking for a new challenge and possessing the skills to make a difference.POLICE CUSTODY WORKING:Key tasks include:

  • Arranging appropriate support for services users and liaise with professionals within the criminal justice system.
  • Completion of assessments within custody.
  • Checking health records to aid triage and identify vulnerabilities.
  • Onward referrals to services required to meet individual's needs.
  • Ensuring all relevant agencies are informed of needs and risks for individuals.
  • Point of contact for professionals based in Police Custody
  • Work as part of a team with the freedom and ability to work independently.

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse / Learning Disability Nurse/General Nurse on NMC Register.
  • Registered Social Worker.
  • Post-registration experience, evidence of formal courses and training at diploma/degree level.

Desirable

  • Leadership qualification.
  • BSc degree in nursing or equivalent level.
  • Psychological intervention Qualification including EMDR, CBT, CBTp, Family Interventions, CAT, DBT, Structured Clinical Management.

Experience

  • Experience of working with Clients who have difficulty in engaging with services and have complex mental health needs.
  • Experience of working in community setting and making decisions autonomously.
