Job summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, passionate, self-motivated and committed nursery nurse to joinour nursery nurse provision within Staffordshire Perinatal service.

You will assist in the provision of quality, evidence based care for women experiencing moderate to severe mental illness, by providing advice and support on Early Years parenting and child care. The Community Nursery Nurse will work as a member of the wider Perinatal Mental Health Service assisting the multidisciplinary team in meeting the needs of women and their families by undertaking delegated duties that support family centred care. You will ensure that there is appropriate communication with other professionals and agencies involved in the care of the mother and child.

Under the supervision of the care coordinator, the you will provide support and education to defined caseload of women with moderate to severe perinatal mental health problems, and those with pre-existing severe mental health disorders to help promote well-being, promote mother-infant relationships and reduce risk, during a vulnerable time for women's mental health. They will contribute to holistic community assessments, in a range of settings, with a strong emphasis on the parent-infant relationship and safeguarding.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, empathic and reassurance skills are required as there maybe barriers to understanding including language or learning difficulties.
  • To develop and implement an innovative approach to working with families and other agencies
  • Professional childcare knowledge acquired through NNEB or equivalent and has attended short courses to enhance learning and can demonstrate this in practice.
  • To be able to adapt to a range of work procedures and practices which vary day by day.
  • To continue to develop skills through training.
  • To demonstrate significant experience working with children with complex needs.
  • Demonstrate skills for analysing development assessment tools enabling the appropriate pathway for the child using sound judgement skills
  • To manage diary to include setting up of groups, home visits and clinic appointments.
  • This post requires physical skills in line with using age appropriate toys with the children and some manipulation of fine tools and materials. Some keyboard use will be necessary.
  • To implement care packages suitable for the child's development needs.
  • To provide advice to parents / carers in relation to their child's complex needs based on knowledge and best practice evidence which may be on a one to one basis or in a group setting.
  • Participates in Child Protection case conferences and case review meetings following the most up to date policy in place
