Job summary
The Research Support Team Leader supports the RGM to provide a study set up and governance service for all studies undertaken by the Trust. Overseen by the Head of Research Governance & Innovation, the Research Support Team establishes and maintains systems and processes for the research governance and quality management across the Trust, to ensure that research cannot commence without all the relevant regulatory approvals in place.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as the first point of contact for staff and researchers to guide them through the research governance requirements including the HRA set-up process, costing and contract co-ordination, processing of amendments and monitoring and auditing data quality.
The post holder will line manage the Research Support Team providing a bespoke research administration service and supporting and deputising for the Research Governance Manager in specific projects and areas such as grants processing, Trust sponsorship processes and the development of an innovation pathway. The post holder will also support the Head of Research Governance & Innovation as required.

Working closely with the Research Managers, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of the Research & Innovation objectives and strategy; and to operational plans to embed research as core business within the Trust.
To be the primary contact for the provision of appropriate advice and support to researchers and research staff on all aspects of research governance and study set-up including the application processes, ethics application process, contracts and NHS indemnity.
- To be the primary contact and liaison for network and industry partners in the process of study set up within the Trust
- Liaise with external research partners to obtain all the necessary information and paperwork required for study set up
- To support the Research Managers to ensure study contracts and costings are completed and signed off in an effective way
- To maintain excellent relationships with study support departments internal and external to the Trust to ensure costings and SLAs are completed and signed off in an effective way
- To use specialist knowledge to support the Research Support Team with IRAS, GCP, HR processes, AcoRD, SoECAT, NCVR, local research packs and other study related resources as necessary
- To liaise with Study Leads to identify Excess Treatment Costs as early as possible during feasibility and to highlight these to the Research Governance Manager; supporting with possible pathways to ameliorate or disperse these costs.
- To oversee the Research Support Administrators in assisting researchers and other research staff with queries relating to honorary research agreements and ensure the correct documents are submitted through the Research Passport Scheme
- To work with the local research team and operational managers to collect local information, identify issues that need resolving and ensure continuous process.
